DevOps is currently one of the most popular topics in the software industry. All the big software vendors have some kind of DevOps offering today. This popularity brings some noise and for many people it is not completely clear yet what DevOps is. This tutorial presents the DevOps foundations and its core practices. It offers a mix of theory and practice with a hands-on approach. This tutorial aims to demystify DevOps. It presents the DevOps mindset and the set of practices DevOps it is built on. The two main topics covered in this tutorial are: Infrastructure as Code and Continuous Delivery. These topics, when drilled down, include some other topics like: immutable infrastructure, monitoring and observability, database versioning and evolution, feature toggles and canary releases. All these items are covered. DevOps practices like Infrastructure as Code, Database Versioning, Immutable Infrastructure and Continuous Delivery are presented using tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Vagrant, Jenkins, FlywayDB and Ansible. This is a novice level tutorial. Participants should have some programming experience and they should be familiar with agile software delivery. Participants must bring their computers. To simplify the setup a virtual machine image with all the required software is shared with the participant at the beginning of the session.

Nicolas Paez is a software engineer practitioner, professor and researcher. He shares his time between the industry and the academia. He teaches Software Engineering at Universidad de Buenos Aires and Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero. He has published some articles and a book about Agile Software Development. He has more than 15 years of experience working in the software industry. He has worked as developer, project leader, architect and coach. He currently works as an independent consultant helping teams to improve their software delivery practices. Nicolas Paez is a seasoned speaker and trainer. He usually delivers training sessions for private companies. He has delivered talks and training sessions covering topics like Test-Driven Development, Test Automation, Continuous Delivery and DevOps.
